How To Make Your Own Embroidered Koozie

How To Make Your Own Embroidered Coozies by www.SuzySewCrafty.com

Hi All!  This tutorial is for people who own an embroidery machine or are thinking about getting one.  Alternatively, if you have a vinyl cutter like a Silhouette, you could also possibly do a heat transfer vinyl.

I took a video of my machine embroidering a koozie.  I am using fast frames, however, you can easily use a 4×4 hoop.  Here is how:

  • Hoop your stabilizer (I used tearaway).  Make sure the stabilizer is taut and makes a nice drum-like noise when you tap it.
  • Pin or spray your koozie in place with temporary adhesive on top of the hooped stabilizer.  I prefer to pin it in place.  Make sure it’s centered.
  • Then send your design to the machine and your koozie will stitch out similarly to my video.

From there, I created this handy-dandy pictorial for you to follow.  Hope you enjoy making a koozie!  It’s super simple and really makes a statement and/or great gift!

The Cutest Embroidered Baby Bibs

Are you guys ready for all the cuteness?!  Some of my more popular items in my Etsy shop are embroidered baby bibs.  I started making these for a local vendor fair I was attending.  Since most of my embroidery work is personalized or business logos, it can be hard to show up at a vendor fair with ready-made items to sell, so baby bibs were the perfect solution for me.

Below are the pics of my faves and most popular.  What’dya think?  My favorite are Diaper Loading and AB/CD!  🙂

Creative Stitch Embroidery

Hey ya’ll, it’s been a while, I know!  The holidays got the best of me, and I was doggone tired.  I’m better now, been keeping busy.  How’ve you been?!  🙂

After the holidays, I took some time to build my embroidery website.  It’s so fancy!  😀

I’ll be running most of my commercial and business embroidery off of that site, and keeping all the fun cute stuff over here on Suzy Sew Crafty.

If you have a moment to check out my site, or come on by to the Creative Stitch Embroidery Facebook page and give me a like, I’d love that!  🙂

Christmas Stenciling with Royal Design Studios and Suzy Sew Crafty!

It’s that time of year again and the Christmas spirit is in full effect around here!  Each year we throw a Christmas day party where all our friends and family are invited to come and spend the day with us cooking, laughing, drinking and enjoying each other’s company.  It’s one of my favorite days of the year and getting ready for it is also part of the fun!  The folks at Royal Design Studio sent me some amazing holiday stencils and boy did I have a great time working with them and decorating my home.

 Stenciled Table Runner

This year, I am going to have a table runner for my Christmas dinner. I thought it would be great to stencil said table runner with the Royal Design Studio Fleur de Lace Christmas Stencil.  My amazing sister, Regina, (who also happens to be a stenciling and faux finishing expert) came through to help a sista out!  She even brought me supplies!!!  I got to use her Bronze and Copper Royal Design Studio Stencil Cremes and Stencil Brushes.

Once she helped me get set up, we lined up the stencil so it was nice and straight on the runner, taped it down and went to town.

Here I am stenciling the bronze parts of the stencil.

Look at the difference now!  The transformation of this table runner was incredible.  I love it so much and if it wasn’t for the embroidered Christmas trees I might have used it all year round!

Stenciled Table Napkins with Embroidered Initial

Ok, I saw this Falling Stars Christmas Stencil by Jennifer Rizzo and I had to have it. I wanted to do stenciled table napkins to compliment my table runner, but I also wanted to spicen it up a bit with our embroidered last name initial.  Using the same Bronze and Copper Stencil Cremes to match my table runner, I went to town on stenciling our napkins.

When repeating the stencil above, I figured out that this particular stencil is small enough that it doesn’t need registration marks.  You just have to eyeball the pattern above the previously stenciling and it works seamlessly!  Took me about half an hour to figure that out!  Dohhh!

I’m drooling over how good these came out!!! What do you think so far? We’re not even done yet! Up next is the Wallternatives.

WINTER SNOWFLAKE REMOVABLE CHRISTMAS WALL DECAL SET

This was probably the easiest project so far!  Royal Design Studio came out with another really cool line called Wallternatives, which is basically removable wall decals.  I ordered the Large Winter Snowflake Removable Christmas Wall Decal Set.  It came with 5 gorgeous wall decals and each one must be about a foot big!  They were perfect for my living room where the Christmas tree is set up.  I love how they subtly compliment the room.  My favorite quotes from both my husband and older son, “Wow!!! Those look painted!” and  “Wait, did YOU paint that?”  Ahhhh no my dears, no I did not, and while I wish I was that talented to paint something so beautiful, I don’t have to worry about repainting it after the season is done!  hehehehe…. just peel and stick back on the roll it came on.  🙂

And last but not least – my Christmas gift-wrapped front door!

Stenciled Wrapping Paper, Gift Wrapped Front Door

I’ve done this lots of times, wrapped my front door in wrapping paper but I’ve never done it by stenciling my own wrapping paper!  I wanted to do something with red and white cause it reminds me of a candy cane.  LOL….  I expected it to be beautiful, but what I got was down right stunningly, drool-worthy, gorgeous!  For this stencil, I ordered the Starry Moroccan Night Christmas Stencil by Royal Design Studio.

Again, I called in the big guns and asked my sis to help me out.  She graciously agreed!  We loved working with this big stencil because it went by so quick, and instead of a stencil brush we used a small roller and white paint.

Next, after it dried it was time to put this baby up.

Tape wrapping paper to door. I used blue tape temporarily to hold it in place and then scotch tape to secure it.

The Tardis Meets Towel

My friends recently celebrated their little boys 3rd birthday.  Yup, the big “3” and who would’ve thought that he could be a Whovian already.  This of course makes me so completely happy because I love Dr. Who and so does my own big boy.  We watch Dr. Who together all the time and I’ve made him Tardis pillow case before.  🙂

I was excited to give Ryan his birthday hooded towel, and even better I found the perfect Dr. Who font to use when embroidering his name.

He loved it, thought it was so cool!  I, of course, had to take pics of him modeling it.

I thought the Tardis was fitting for this little Whovian. He may be small but he definitely is “Bigger on the Inside”.

Hipster Stylin’ Babies

Ya’ll, this mustache craze is so cute! I knew I’d have a blast when a mommy who’s having a splash pad party for her little one asked me to make some tank tops with the “mustache”.  She had a very specific style and color scheme in mind, and I was able to work with her to get the perfect custom embroidery t-shirt.

This awesome mom wrote me:

My lil guy is turning 1 in September and I’ve been having the hardest time trying to find what I’m looking for. He’s having a splash pad party so I wanted to get a tank top embroidered with “1” and a mustache, with a lime green “1”. Is that something you can do?

Yes ma’am,  I sure can make that!  She loved it so much that she ordered another shirt, similar with that hipster, mustache style.

Here they are!  Aren’t they so cute!?  Perfect for summer, and perfect for this little boy’s big day turning “1”.  🙂  I know how important these shirts are for our birthday kids, so I’m so honored to be able to make their day a little extra special.

Introducing Big Bertha

I just love creating in my studio and it’s recently gotten a huge upgrade!!!  Check out this amazing machine I just purchased, it’s a used and older model, but it’s much loved and has been very well taken care of!  I’ve named her Big Bertha cause she’s Big, she’s powerful, she’s efficient, she’s multi-talented and she’s AMAZING!  🙂  I love, love, love her!

My new-to-me 15 needle commercial embroidery machine!!!!!
My new-to-me 15 needle commercial embroidery machine!!!!!

I’ve been day dreaming, saving all my pennies, and putting all my good vibes out there to make this dream come true.  Now, when I’m creating amazing shirts and garments I can do it so much faster!  Yup, this baby has 15 needles and is a work horse.  To put it into perspective, I’ve been working on a 1-needle machine since I’ve started doing embroidery.  Don’t get me wrong my 1-needle is great but having to change the colors of thread for each different color in a design could be very time consuming.  To add to that, Big Bertha can stitch up to 1200 stitches a minute versus the 1-needle, I’m generously estimating top speed to be at about 600 stitches per minute.  Sorry to get all technical on you but as you can tell, I’m super excited and now I’ll be even more efficient at doing what I love best!   😀

Here’s a quick video we took of Big Bertha working her magic.

Pretty awesome right?! I can’t wait to start sharing all the amazing things I create with her. Stay tuned friends!

Doing What I Love Best: Embroidery & Applique

Hello friends!

I’m very excited to officially announce that I am expanding my business and doing what I love best, embroidery and appliqué.  I’ve always had a passion to be creative and when my husband gifted me my embroidery machine, it seemed as though the clouds parted, and the sun shined brighter.  🙂  I’ve been creating custom embroidered shirts, onesies, towels, aprons and so much more.  Check out a few of the shirts and projects I’ve worked on recently.
